These strings are great for anyone looking for a warmer set of strings, but don't want to worry about the intonation and durability issues that come with gut strings. They feel very comfortable to play. The strings are quite smooth and sliding around is effortless. The tone is very rich, but weaker in the higher positions of the G-string. If you like Obligato, Infeld Red, or Dominant strings this would be a good set to check out.

I have a wonderful new German made violin that has a dark, powerful sound, I wanted to find a string that had a warm and complex string that would blend well with the tone colours of the instrument. I've tried several strings from Pirastro and Thomastik, including the really great Peter Infeld PI strings. The Warchal strings were new to me, and I was impressed with the recycling service too. The strings are wonderful: They took two days to settle, had a metallic undertone for about an hour of play until the sound really broke through. The G is less responsive than the D and the A, both of which are hyper-responsive all the way up into the high positions. I'm blending the strings with the Kaplan gold spiral E and they work really with this.

I have admired Warchal for a long while for the Company's overall enthusiasm, quality, and pricing. I saw that Warchal had finally made a viola version of the Amber set, and I immediately had to get my hands on them. I have just started college for music composition and study viola as well, so that was the main reason for me deciding to go ahead and try the set; I really did need new strings! The set (so far, as I only put them on five hours ago), besides being strikingly lovely and elegant with the gold and white silking, is so easy to make sing that even my movement can be a little more graceful to mach the string. The tone is altogether very warm and complex. I won't say it sounds like gut, as I played on gut all through my violin days, but it has a rich, brilliant, and fiery sound that draws.attention even if you aren't the best (like yours truly). The a string really SINGS: everything rings and the sympathetic vibration effect really stands out. The only think I do not like is the d; I despise aluminium beaded windings, as they give me a thinner sound. This set is my new absolute favourite, and will continue to be my go-to until Warchal comes up with something even more brilliant. Here's looking at you Warchal!

These are said to be comparable to gut. Nah I don't think so. They are warm though, but they don't have that sort of complexity you get from gut strings. But of course you won't get all the cons associated with gut like unstable pitch, hair pulling prices, etc. When it's fresh out of the pack, it's unbelievably loud. And you'll get that sort of scratchiness like from a fresh set of Dominants. Once it settles in, which it does take some time to do so, the tone will mellow out.
The metal A string (oops did I mention that I'm playing a viola) is probably the best one out of them all. You've probably heard people singing praises about this string and how it was so warm despite being a steel core string. It is quite unique though seeing that twirl on the string, I guess that is what makes it so special.
You'll definitely get more than you paid for in terms of the sound. It's like paying half for a set of lesser obligatos.

I tested this strings by indication of my personal luthier, I didn't expect I'd find such quality on a string not famous on my country. And the E string is the better that I've played.

I concur with a previous reviewer, who noted that the G string was rather weak and to plainly put it, not very good sounding in the upper positions. The strings are still well balanced and provide a tone that is similar to gut strings. Not all violins will sound good on these strings, but the ones that do will sound fantastic.
