My second favorite set of strings. Blues are very similar to dominants. They were originally designed to be an improvement over dominants. Though they are brighter and a bit punchier, they lack some of the warmth and complexity of dominants. They are also slightly slower and feel more tense. They are a good set, though, for instruments that like dominants but require a bit more power and brilliance. The e is definitely thomastik's nicest, with a loud, clear, singing tone. If you like dominants, these are worth a try if you want something brighter.

Infeld Blue is a string where results will vary depending on the violin, more than with most strings. On an old Viennese violin with a dark, sweet sound, these strings are outstanding. They really wake it up! They are better than any other string on this antique.
On the other hand, I have a fine modern instrument with a strong, bright sound of excellent quality. On this violin, Infeld Blues are just impossible--intolerably bright and edgy. I took them off after a week and half and went to something else better suited to it.

I was looking for a string that was similar to Dominant but a bit brighter in tone. These did not quite deliver for me. Yes they are a bit brighter, but nothing that would influence me to choose them over a Dominant set. The A is the nicest out of the set. It has a very clear and projecting tone. The E and D are very dull on my instrument. The G is smooth with nothing to complain about, but also nothing to brag about either. I still favor Dominants, and will most likely try visions next to get that extra punch I am looking for.

My newest favorite string is Thomastik's Infeld Blue. I've been a fan of Obligato's for a long time, but I recently restrung my great-grandpa's violin with the Blue and I'm loving it. It took a few weeks of breaking the strings in, but the tone quality and overall sound I get is so much better than what I was getting with the Obligato's.
My other favorite go-to strings are Dominants. They seem to be universally liked and well received on almost any instrument.
