This string is exactly what it says. I could not get it to whistle at all. However it does not ring and it's extremely timid. One can play loud on it, it will cut through eventually, but it lacks brilliance and sweetness.
It's an excelent orchestra string and would use it again in an orchestra setting.
I have had one snap when putting it on. I feel it was an odd one, because this string is manufactured solidly and materials and workmanship are of very high quality.

this is the funniest feeling E I've had my hands on so far. It's really flexible, I think it's aluminium wound on very thin perlon or something. string thickness is comparable to the wound aluminium Dominant E.
The kaplan non-whistling whistles not indeed, but it does not make my violin sing either. I am used to thin gauge soft sounding e strings and have invested a lot of time and money to find the right one for my violin, but this particular e string was just too quiet and dull for me.

This string is amazing. Very responsive and not too harsh on my violin. Definitely will be getting another one of these.

I once had the nagging problem of whistling E string, and bought the Kaplan to try it out. While I was satisfied that it works as advertised, it's lower volume and lack of overtones were enough for me to try other strings. Still, I must say the idea is novel, and it absolutely works.

I recently tried a Kaplan Non-Whistling E string. It definitely did not whistle on a violin where that had been a problem. The tone was rounder and more complex than single-wire E's in general. I was disappointed that the tone and volume degraded pretty quickly, especially considering the price. I had to use the extension provided to use this on my fine tuner, and felt the change in after-length was detrimental It looked "busy" with that on, too.

Normally E strings would not be considered to be "warm" or "complex" but this one is (compared to other E strings). Because of this the strings does not project like a solid/plated E string would. For the most part it does what it is suppose to do and prevents much of the whistling problem. I don't use this string anymore because I would like my instrument to project a bit more than this string can provide, and the wound string feels a bit thick under my fingers.
