Being used to Obligato strings, these were a pleasant surprise. Warmer, richer, better projection, and they feel very comfortable. However, they are sensitive to humidity changes, and can seem just so-so some days. Takes a little longer to break in compared to the synthetics, but I really love the sound. I've only had them on a few days, but experienced a big change in humidity since putting them on, so we'll see! So far, so good.

Going from synthetics to gut, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality palette of colours and complexity these strings gave my violin. They are brilliant strings with a gutsy core quality to the sound that no other synthetic I have ever used came close to. They feel softer under the fingers than medium synthetics which to me is a plus.
They only come in one gauge, medium and Pirastro have done their research as I don't feel the need to experiment with gauges as they suit my J.B. Vuillaume admirably.
I have contacted Pirastro about the tension and indeed they are softer than Pirazzis and a little softer than the Vision titanium solo I used to use.
These strings are for keeps.

These strings are my first experience with gut. After trying these, it is clear why they are becoming so popular. They have a warm, round, sound with plenty of overtones. Best of all, they are almost as stable as a typical set of synthetic strings. I played a week long televised Christmas concert series with these strings as concertmaster and had no issues with tuning. Response is quite good as well. For anyone wanting to get into gut, this is your string.

No difference from Pirastro Oliv.
few exceptions:
few exceptions:
- E string (steel) with little projection and complexity. It does not match with the remainder of the set.
- Less breakage
- Cheaper price

These strings provide the best of 2 worlds: the complexity and warmth of gut core and the stability and power of synthetic wrapping.
The E string, in my experience, does not match the quality of the rest - GoldBrokat provides a better clarity and balance.

I love these strings, I just can't afford to keep using them, and they don't keep their clarity for long enough, plus the humidity here in Sydney means they are only useful in Winter. they sound good on my violin, and are lovely to play on, great response and the sound on the lower strings was bright but deep. I usually used the full set, but did have a muck around with e strings, but am not entirely sure it was necessary, as the e was good enough with the set.
