The Amber E keeps the clarity of wire E strings, and adds in the whistle preventing abilities of wound E strings. With the market of available violin strings growing every year it is nice to see a company think outside the box, and try something completely new. There is a noticeable warmth in the tone, especially when the string is plucked. Being able to fly into string crossings and chords that require an open E without the fear of a whistle is a huge relief. With the price of the single string being around $10 (as of the date of this review) it is definitely worth a look for beginners and professionals alike.

I decided to try this string because I'm playing a lot of Bach and I want an anti-whistle E.
It replaced a Westminster E which is a fantastic sounding string but, being a single strand steel string, can be prone to whistles on rapid string crossings.
I first tried two wound Es, the Pirastro No. 1 and the Kaplan non-whistling E, but both were just such a letdown after the Westminster. The Pirastro in particular was just flat and lifeless on my fiddle.
The Warchal Amber E isn't as punchy as the Westminster but it at least provides acceptable volume, resonance and responsiveness. And it doesn't whistle at all. It takes a lot of stress out of playing chords and rapid string crossings without having to worry about whistles.

This review is for the Medium Amber E (not the Forte). This is a truly unique string in every way. The "spring" built into it provides some added angles of friction to help prevent whistling by helping the bow maintain contact. It definitely delivers on reducing, but not completely preventing, the whistling. I can still make it happen. The coil also seems to add the ability to support a wider array of overtones, as well as enliven the other strings sympathetically. If you have a pretty lively instrument, or some brighter strings, this may be a bit too much. I know if was a bit overwhelming for my instrument. I can see why it's matched with the Amber set, which is really dark and rich. I had it matched with a set of Dominants, but I can see how this string probably helps Ambers keep from being too dark.
Also, the stretched-out coil never fully straightens out. It feels a bit weird and causes the bow tracking to feel a bit off. It doesn't render the string unplayable in any way, but it's really different that what I'm used to.

I LOVE this string! It is the best E string I've ever played on. It is more complex than is possible on most other strings, and by some miracle does not have the signature overwhelming metallic ring of an E string. My violin is sweet and and powerful sounding, albeit sometimes a bit harsh. This string made my violin sound like a sunny April day, crisp and warm. I got the forte gauge, because my violin works better with more pressure. It blends well with my Evah Pirazzi Gold strings. Overall, I think I can never go back to settling with a standard E.

Very difficult to whistle. Tonal signature is pretty normal but tilted to the bright side (in a set with Dominants). Good innovative idea, if only it wasn't so bright.

I did not think as good as I thought. The she did not yield much complexity to my violin. Sometimes gave some instability problems sound as if the rosin does not grab right. Have whistled and failed a few times. The tuner is short-lived. The tone is warm but not very liked. But are good for modular. The voltage is low, but I prefer the rope Oliv E by its timbre.
