  • High Quality synthetic core strings. Ametyst strings offer a pure and focused sound which is brighter than Karneol. Although they are intended for better instruments, they will improve the sound of all levels of violins. They have a synthetic core, and normally take approximately three days to achieve tuning stability and optimum tone quality.

The Ametyst is the best strings I've ever encountered. They have a warm tone and great projection. The complete set is very good, however, if you pair the set with a (e) WARCHAL Amber, the violin sounds fantastic, very warm and rich. These strings are great for those who live in hot climates (tropical). I live in Brazil and for me this is the best strings.

I'm used to playing Obligato light, but have a couple old fiddles laying about that I need to get rid of, and can't bring myself to sending them out with Obligato on them. I was surprised, these Amethyst (which are also a light string) are nice and bright, not real rich but clean. The e a bit bright. Good response, fairly quick to settle in. Good buy for the money.

I've used these strings on two separate instruments, one of lower and the other of higher quality, and I think they do an excellent job for the price. They generate plenty of volume and project well. I recorded myself playing and though the strings may sound bright and a bit harsh under the ear, what comes out is whatever sound your violin naturally makes (warm, even tone in my case). The strings are very "ringy" on my instrument (which I like) and they produce excellent overtones. Give them at least one week of serious playing before deciding whether you like them or not.

I'm still iffy about the E string. It's okay but something just seems off about it and I can't quite figure out what it is. Compared to Dominants, I can't say Dominants are worth the extra ~$20.

For me, the Ametysts are clear, focused strings. Bright and clean sounding. Easy to play, no surprises.

I liked the entire set, but I really liked the clear, ringing E especially. Very pure sound.

The A started to give out on me after about 2-3 months.

Nice set of strings that is well worth trying, especially as you can get a complete set for about $35 from a number of vendors.

After my conservatory auditions were over, I decided to treat myself to a new set of strings. Having already tried their Russian A, I decided to try another Warchal product. The ametysts are a perlon core string that is designed to feel very similar to gut strings, but have a clear, focused tone. Being a dominant user, I am already used to a somewhat low tension string. The ametysts were practically floppy. I have played on gut sets more tense than these. The sound was pretty good, though not anything special. The hydronalium d was particularly annoying. It seemed to almost grip my fingers during shifts. On an older instrument that likes very little tension, these may be great strings, but they certainly do not work for me.
