I have tried this set once and twice for the e string. If looking for warm steel strings, i'll suggest them. The pitch is still stable even while you're playing in 5th position. The e is also good, not too bright. It's also perfect to combine with synthetic core sets.

For a student string, these are surprisingly decent. They are not terribly harsh and are one of the warmer steel strings out there. As expected, their response, pitch stability, durability, and price are excellent. They are a good choice for fiddling for these characteristics. I personally prefer these over other student strings

Used these strings on a 120 year old Hopf student fiddle playing bluegrass and Cajun genre. They did very well on that fiddle. I have a new Chinese fiddle that is a bit brash and have not tried a steel core string on it yet - too loud!
