I put it on my violin a month ago because I want my e string to play sweeter. Before then I used a Kaplan Solution, my violin tends to whistle with every kind of e string. With the PI gold plated I obtained the tone I desired but the string continued to whistle. Maybe it whistled 'cause I didn't play with too much pressure on the bow. I made a survey and I saw that the PI e strings are very strong. Yesterday the string broke and I asked to my luthier why: he answered my violin can't stand that gauge. So I put on the Kaplan with many regrets, it haven't the brilliance, the encircling sweetness and the powerful sound of the PI.

Thomastik made a good string. But like whisky - if the string is trying to fit every taste it will have no personality. And I like personality.
I didn't bother with titanium covered e string. What's it going to do? Take off? Make me a sandwitch? For that price - it better. But, alas, I have it on good authority, that even the most expensive string doesn't do that. So unless someone gives it to me, Thomastik can have that string.
The rest of the pack is nice, sweet, deep, cultured. But there is a distinct lack of bite, which becomes even more apparent when the string ages. I use them on 2 violins and these strings make the instrument sound deep and "adult", but not as powerful as one would want for solo playing.
I expected more power and slightly less refinment. Ok I got a well behaved, niclely groomed poodle, when I expected a raging pibull.
The string age gracefuly and slowly loose power as opposed to dying quickly in a flash (like Evahs gold do).
Seeking something more powerful and less groomed.

I have mixed feelings for these strings. I have used them on two different violins: a circa 1880 caussin school instrument as well as a 2011 American Guarneri copy. On the caussin, the strings were superb. They brought out all of the positive characteristics of the instrument. They increased my color palette, dynamic range, and projection, while covering some of the instrument's faults. On the American violin, they were nothing special. Good, but not excellent. I will say, the platinum E is a huge rip-off. Listening, no one would know it was any better that a one-dollar goldbrokat E. Also, the lifespan is nothing to write home about. They tend to go false rather quickly; not something that is a positive quality in a set this expensive. If they work for your violin, they are an absolute treat, but are a huge waste if they don't.

I used the PI for a while but did not like them very much. The sound is well defined. Projection is good. Sound is not too soft. even I had problems getting amore aggressive sound for this excess smoothness. I think the most interesting point is the durability and longevity of the string. In the end they were very easy to play and are easy to add expression.

These are the best strings I have ever used... for one week. Once the strings settled in they lost a lot of the brilliance that they had when I first put the strings on. The tension on the strings were a bit high for my liking. I would recommend these if they did not have such a high cost.
